ICAO Language Proficiency Exam
(Preskúšanie jazykovej spôsobilosti leteckého personálu)
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has decided that:
all airline and helicopter pilots who fly internationally,
all air traffic controllers who provide services to international flights ....must have a minimum level of English.
This level of English is known as ICAO Operational Level 4.
What is the ICAO Language Proficiency Exam?
it is a test of your ability to communicate in English – it is not a test of your operational knowledge.
it is a test of plain English in an aviation context – it is not a test of aviation phraseology
it is a face-to-face interview with an examiner and a rater lasting about 25 minutes and consisting of 4 parts.
ICAO RATING SCALE CRITERIA:
The ICAO Exam tests plain English, not phraseology – the ICAO language standards have been introduced to improve communication when phraseology is insufficient.
The ICAO Exam does NOT include:
any writing
any reading
any need to type or use a computer
